Adam's Story

“Adam” struggled throughout his college years, eventually turning to alcohol to cope with the stress. Coming from a happy and stable family he never thought he would struggle with addiction. Soon Adam didn’t do anything except for staying home to drink and feel sorry for himself. He knew he needed help but was afraid to take the steps. With no place to turn and no money left, Adam found The Salvation Army Rehabilitation Program in Seattle.

Through the program, Adam faced the changes that he was so scared of and received the resources he needed. With the support and programs provided at The Salvation Army, Adam found his second chance. Today, Adam is sober, able to keep his life on track and is maintaining a full-time job. He says that for those struggling from addiction, “There’s always hope and a way out. The resources are available, but you have to work for it.

lost the ability to cope with their problems and provide for themselves. Our rehabilitation programs offer compassion to help people break free from addiction and find a new life path. The physical and spiritual care that program participants receive prepares them to re-enter society and return to gainful employment. Many of those who have been rehabilitated are reunited with their families and resume a normal life. Each program participant is provided with a clean and healthy living environment, good food, work therapy, leisure time activities, group and individual counseling, spiritual direction, and resources to develop life skills. The six-month program is free to participants, and graduates can stay up to an additional six months as needed. The program offers men the opportunity to regain their self-respect and acquire the life skills needed to take their rightful place in society.
